Walking in the Pentlands near Edinburgh

East and West Cairns

West Cairns from East CairnsThis walk is an altogether more serious undertaking and takes in two of the Pentlands tallest hills with just 1m separating the two with East Cairns at 561m and West Cairns at 562m. I usually climb East Cairns first, continue over the Slap before climbing West Cairns. Return the way you came or alternatively descend north down the ridge of West Cairns and accross the moor crossing Baad Park Burn before rejoining the Drove Road.
